The Library and Resource Service aims to:
  • hold key documents relating to the public’s health
  • provide back up information for staff relevant to their individual remits
  • advise staff of recently published material relevant to their remits
  • advise clients on information available
  • guide clients to information sources appropriate to their needs
  • provide a video and resource lending service to those requiring materials to promote health and well being at home, at work or in a community setting.

The library contains a variety of books on subject areas matching those of the work programmes carried out by Directorate staff. Resources and videos for public loan are also available. Details of these are on the library catalogue, available to search here. A collection of journals is kept at the centre, although some runs are incomplete. Shorter runs of newsletters on topics such as local voluntary groups, nutrition, poverty, drugs & alcohol, and sexual health are kept. SIGN guidelines, SNAP reports, OHE publications, Clinical Standards, Population reports and national and topical statistics are also held, many for reference only. A small study area is available in the library to work in.
